Easy Homemade Marshmallows

Store-bought marshmallows are packed with highly refined sugars, colours, and flavours that have zero health benefits. But if you make them yourself, they can be a nourishing gut-healing treat with a few simple ingredients—water, gelatin, honey, vanilla, and a mixer!

Marshmallows need gelatin. As an animal product, looking at the source when choosing powdered gelatin is important.

Most of us don’t want to support factory farming or eat animal products laced with drugs and hormones, right? Unless a gelatin powder specifically states where it’s sourced, you can be fairly sure it's a byproduct of factory farming (usually pig parts and cowhide).

Also, chemically treated packs of gelatin and gelatin leaves at your supermarket won’t provide the same health benefits as a quality grass-fed or organic gelatin powder. A high-quality source = a high-quality product!

The best products are made from 100% grass-fed and finished or organic-raised animals that have been pasture-raised without hormones, antibiotics, chemicals, or GMOs. Cell Squared's Grass-fed & Grass-finished Beef Gelatin Powder ticks all these boxes.

They’re perfect for adding to hot chocolate around the campfire or just on their own.

Ingredients

Method

  1. Add the Grass-fed Beef Gelatin into a glass bowl with ½ cup water. Mix and set aside to bloom for a minute.

  2. Add the honey, ½ cup water, salt and vanilla into a saucepan. Bring to a boil and allow to boil with the lid on for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Slowly pour the hot honey water into the bloomed gelatin mixture while blending. You can use an electric hand mixer for this and blend continuously for around 6 minutes.

  4. Open up the Beef Spleen & Liver Capsule and add it in. Blend until combined.

  5. Pour the marshmallow mixture into a lined container.

  6. Place in the fridge to set for an hour.

  7. Once it’s set, use scissors to cut it into squares.

  8. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

  9. Serve in coffee, hot chocolate, or enjoy them as they are.

NOTES: If you’re adding in the spleen & liver capsule, these are best eaten within 2-3 days (After this time you can start to notice the flavour and smell of the liver).

If you don’t add in the spleen & liver capsule, these will be perfectly fine for up to one week in the fridge.
